KANDE BEARINGS MGN3 & MGN5 Miniature Linear Rail Guide — Precision Motion for 3D Printers & Desktop Machines

Upgrade your 3D printer or light desktop device with the KANDE BEARINGS MGN3 / MGN5 Miniature Linear Rail Guide. Available in lengths of 100 mm, 150 mm, 200 mm, 300 mm, and 400 mm, these compact rail systems deliver smooth, accurate linear motion for demanding builds. Choose from MGN3C, MGN3H, MGN5C, or MGN5H slider variants to match your exact carriage and preload needs.

🎁 Bonus: Every order — regardless of quantity — includes a complimentary 10 g packet of rail grease to keep your linear guides running smoothly right out of the box.

Made in Mainland China.

Key Features

  • Guide Widths: 3 mm (MGN3) and 5 mm (MGN5) — ultra-compact profiles for tight build envelopes
  • Available Lengths: 100 mm / 150 mm / 200 mm / 300 mm / 400 mm
  • Slider Material: 440C martensitic stainless steel for corrosion resistance and long service life
  • Guide Rail Material: High-grade bearing steel for rigidity and dimensional stability
  • Slider Models: MGN3C, MGN3H, MGN5C, MGN5H — long (H) and short (C) carriage options
  • Class C Precision: Matched rail-and-slider sets for consistent fit and reliable performance
  • Set Includes: 1 × slider block + 1 × guide rail (sold as a set); slider-only options also available

Preload Options Explained

These rails are available in three preload grades to suit your application:

  • ZF (Normal Clearance): Slider moves freely under its own weight when vertical — ideal for most 3D printers
  • Z0 (No Preload): Slides under light manual thrust — suitable for lightweight desktop devices
  • Z1 (Light Preload): Higher resistance for applications where precision and longevity are the priority

ZF/Z0 are shipped interchangeably at the same price. Z1 is recommended only where tighter tolerances and extended service life are required.

Important Notes

  • Rail length tolerance: −1 mm to 0 mm (slight under-length is normal and within spec)
  • Default hole spacing: both ends of the rail are divided equally ("E" equal division). Contact us before purchase if you have a custom hole-spacing requirement.
  • Additional specialty options are available: nickel-plated, chrome-plated, blackened, or 440C full stainless steel rails — contact us for details.

What's in the Box

  • 1 × MGN3 or MGN5 linear guide rail (selected length)
  • 1 × Slider block (C or H carriage, selected preload grade)
  • 1 × 10 g lubricating grease packet (complimentary)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between MGN3C and MGN3H sliders?

A: The "C" designation refers to a short carriage block, while "H" refers to a long carriage block. The long (H) carriage offers a larger contact surface and greater load capacity, making it better suited for heavier or wider mounting brackets. The short (C) carriage is more compact and lightweight, ideal for minimal-footprint 3D printer axes.

Q: Do I need to purchase the rail and slider separately?

A: No — when you select a "set," you receive one guide rail and one slider block together. If you select the "single slider" option, you receive only the block without a guide rail. Please review your selection carefully before ordering.

Q: Which preload grade is best for a standard FDM 3D printer?

A: KANDE BEARINGS recommends ZF or Z0 preload for most FDM 3D printers and light desktop CNC or laser devices. These grades provide smooth, low-friction travel that reduces motor load and wear. Z1 preload is only necessary for high-precision or high-duty-cycle applications where tighter clearances are required.

Q: Why is there a length tolerance on the rail?

A: Miniature linear rails are precision-machined components, and a tolerance of −1 mm to 0 mm is standard in the industry. The rail will never be longer than the specified length but may be marginally shorter. This tolerance does not affect fit or performance in typical 3D printer or desktop machine installations.
